Damn Camilo. I am so sorry I never got you feedback on this draft. But you clearly did not need it. This was so good. So visceral. So real.

I'm honored to get to read it.

My heart broke reading this piece, but got stitched back together with the story of Enzo.

I'm glad it was stitched back together. I'm not out here trying to break hearts.

“The only way I’ve been able to not be consumed by cynicism over the last month is by looking into my nephew’s eyes.” Loved the sentiment of this essay Camilo. I find looking children in their eyes one of the most meditative and calming things in my day. I share your sadness and cynicism too.

Thank you, Sadia! Yes, I'm glad to have someone like my nephew in my life to keep me grounded!

It's a courageous act to allow yourself to feel that you've failed a child. It's been one of the most painful and motivating forces I've felt as a parent. That you have this level of empathy, resonance, and desire to attend to the spirits of children is remarkable as a pre-parent.
