Thank you for taking the time to write this and for educating us on the nuances of this situation. I come from a (very) small country and our history books have always emphasised the importance of remaining independent. The section on why #HandsOffVenezuela and civil conflict aren't good options was thought-provoking for me.

Thanks for reading, Nat. It's a complicated situation, and I largely agree about the value and virtue of independence of sovereignty. I couldn't get to it in this essay, but the idea that Venezuela has been sovereign until just now is also a fallacy. But anyways, thanks again for reading!

…amazing breakdown of all angles on a complicated world/local/etc situation…i wish we lived in a world that was honest…

Oh CansaFis, I wish that as well. Unfortunately, I know that I'll be left hoping, so we just have to navigate all these moral quandaries as best as we can.

Wow, as someone who didn’t know any of this, I really appreciate you taking the time to sit, sort and put together this essay. You’re so talented at distilling extreme political murkiness in a way that’s comprehensive and easier to understand. It makes a huge difference in helping people learn and care about geopolitical issues, myself included. I know it’s risky and complicated too, for which I’m even more grateful you took the time to do this deep dive.
