As a friend and customer, I'd say that one of your biggest assets is your humanity and empathy. This is what we need more of; in a world where we crave connection more than ever, your superpowers will shine. I know you'll do great and meaningful things. I am so happy that this new chapter of your life is unfolding.
Thank you dear Suad! You always have seen the best of me. I think our friendship is build on a beautiful virtuous circle where we constantly remind ourselves of our talents and always push us to co-exist with our fears while we live our dreams. I'm truly grateful to have you in my corner.
This isn't an overdue phone call where two friends finally get to talk, but the phrase "it's so good to hear your voice" still applies. In acting conservatory they used to make us perform scenes where we played ourselves, because they said the hardest thing to do is to just naturally be yourself in full view. I think they were all right that you're destined for greatness, as perhaps we all are, but it's so hard to imagine the simplicity of our authenticity is something truly wonderful. And that's certainly evident when you do you.
"they said the hardest thing to do is to just naturally be yourself in full view." You have no idea how often I think about what we talked about regarding authenticity when had coffee during your Seattle visit. This reminded me of this. Thank you for consistently banging this drum. It is worth repeating in all ways shapes and forms.
ha ha, oh god, yes, I suppose I do bang this drum. I wish it sounded more like wind chimes, but that's okay, I guess it's my authentic instrument. are we do for our annual meet up there, same spot when the cherry trees blossom? More like march/april I guess.
I may have to come up your way because the Canadian post service apparently is on strike, so what was meant to be delivered to you, has to be done by yours truly. So Santa is coming late, on Colombian time. But he will come.
Nice to see you back here. We met at a Seattle Substack event last summer and though I didn’t think you’d be president (too good for the job), I did think you had interesting things to say. So, go you!
I've read this like 4 times and it gets better each time. Your writing and its layers–the subtle humor, the melodic cadence, the refreshing honesty–is a gift. Keep writing!!
Ah do I relate to your limbo so much! Your writing is so uniquely yours and so poetic even when telling us about your new season of life. Congrats!! Anyone who works with you is lucky. Not only because their writing will get better, but because you also bring the same great energy and metaphors to the margins of any page. I also can’t wait to see where your writing continues to take you because *no pressure* it’ll be amazing. Also, I want to hear about the yoga studio, this is the sabbatical detour story I live for.
Appreciate the love my friend! I can see you saying “this ripped” while on a cargo ship in the middle of a storm in the middle of the Pacific Ocean for some reason 😅
Cata this is great news that you are freelancing on the side! Have you written about this? I'm sorry if I missed it. Let me know and I will read about this. If not, consider this a playful nudge to write about it.
Gracias por tus lindos comentarios y apoyo siempre! Se valora!
Or is it the “expressing to you in a beautiful, wonderfully articulated, one-of-a-kind, thoughtful, generous, insightful, only Camilo-can-say-it-this- way, way”
That’s what it feels like to me and if that’s long winded, please, make it longer!
Hi Camilo, I really appreciate your story. For the past 2 years, storytelling popped in my life. At times, I question if I should double down and embrace storytelling. I didn't realize I had FOPO too. I didn't fully lean into it. However, I noticed that storytelling was the only thing accepting my energy and time. In the moments when I leaned into storytelling, opportunities show up.
Your piece is a great reminder to trust the process of the universe even if it works in mysterious ways and trust in my ability to adapt.

Camilo, you are greatness!!

Oh Alison, I really appreciate this comment. Hope to catch you in the next meet up!

Haha you will hear the yoga story at some point. Appreciate the support and good vibes, your majesty.
…get it brother!!!…you are an excellent writer!!!…this ripped!…

...give me a year and i'll probably be a sailor again...
I read this yesterday and loved it so much that I set a reminder to reread it today with a pen and paper at hand.
I started freelancing this year on the side of my full-time job, and telling others that you are available for work is the most terrifying part.
I'm sure you will do amazing; words are your thing.

I haven't written about it! It's a topic that makes me very insecure, and putting yourself out there is hard.
Still, this was the push I needed. I will write about it soon. Take care!
Also I love you and I love the poetic delivery of this but mygod Camilo you truly buried the lede here that you're open for business!!
lol. This just confirms that I would be a terrible journalist ;)
“Telling you in my long-winded, very Camilo way…”
Is there such a thing?
Or is it the “expressing to you in a beautiful, wonderfully articulated, one-of-a-kind, thoughtful, generous, insightful, only Camilo-can-say-it-this- way, way”
That’s what it feels like to me and if that’s long winded, please, make it longer!
🙏🙏
The book will come one day, James! That's my promise to you. So whatever I'll say, it will be much longer.
Thank you for reflecting how you see me in such a memorable and kind way!
Every word is true Camilo. ❤️
Atta boi let’s gooo Camilo
Thank you, Phil!
