Love this piece. It aligns with a lot of my thinking with AI. I mostly had been optimistic about it as “AI-assisted creativity,” but the latest evolutions are going in more aggressive directions. More than anything I resonate with the question you shared about the importance of ambiguity in creative process. My latest “sketchplorations” post made me think about how much I enjoy that phase of it, and our feedback sesh (thx again!) is another example of all these aspects that are really important. AI skips over that stuff.
All depends on how ppl use it, but the tool often dictates that for majority of ppl, which is the scary part. I feel many folks will simply lose that practice, skill, patience…
Yea, I think the ideal would be AI-assisted creativity, but I'm seeing some of the early behaviors be straight outputs to get engagement. Maybe that will change as the tools become more common and then people will need to differentiate by working WITH these AI tools. We'll see!
You crack me up 😂 The Pixies from the Fairly OddParents!? I love a good Nickelodeon deep cut.
Your humor helps me process the big, scary unknown. Sometimes, I allow myself to worry about the bleak technocratic future (and present?). Yet I can only do that for so long. Perhaps when I catch myself feeling this way, it's because I, too, am getting caught up in the rat race.
I don't want to get caught up in the fear, but I also don't want to get caught up in the excitement. I suspect getting caught up in either weakens our ability to 1) think critically about our relationship with technology 2) spend time and energy in deep connection with our loved ones.
Thank you, Rach! I'm glad you were delighted by the Nickelodeon reference. I almost took it out (too niché, but I had hope that someone would get it (glad it was you!).
For me fear and cynicism paralyze, so I agree with how getting caught in our fears weakens our ability to think critically about our relationship with technology and build deep connections (your forte!). It's that careful balance of not being blissfully ignorant, but not consumed by fear. It's a hard balance!
Welcome to Substack, Camilo! And there couldn’t have been a better debut. I like your reflections on AI and I’m aligned to your thinking here. You said it all and said it better than I could have myself. And the photos at the Triennale are beautiful. I haven’t gone in the last couple of years (shame, as it’s literally a 5min walk from my place) and you’re reminding me that it’s time for me to go check out what’s there these days. Great piece overall! :)
Grazie Silvio! Your encouragement was needed and it pushed me over the edge!
Please go to the Triennale on my behalf! I doubt they have the same exhibits they had last Fall, but it is quite a marvelous place! Thank you for reading and supporting me constantly.
🥳 welcome to Substack! Another great read and I in particular loved the photos. I love that you infuse a little of your Colombian heritage in small details like the colors, I totally get that desire.
AI gives me similar fears. It is definitely a double edged sword, and I like the methods you offer to deal with this: Accepting the Duality, and Accepting our Agency against the fear. It is up to to get more informed and understand this better, and how it can apply to us individually.
This change in technology reminds me of previous technological advances that changed humanity for better or worse, specifically the printing press, and how in the wrong hands was able to manipulate masses, but also to liberate the masses once the common person learned to use it for its own growth and understanding.

Exciting times we live in to say the least!
Ooh I like the comparison to the printing press. It really changed so many things, and fits the double-edged sword metaphor pretty well.
I'm glad my methods were helpful. I'm still trying them out on me, so I hope they prove useful over the long-term.
Thanks for reading!
