I feel so validated! I literally said this yesterday in one of our speaking meetings, that I wanted to start a practice group now in December so that we hit 2024 with momentum. Either great minds think alike, or great minds think the same thoughts when both of them are subjected to dreary Pacific Northwest weather.

Yes, I totally agree with starting your goals for the new year now for momentum. Recently I realised that I spend hours scrolling on social media late into the night and in the past week, I have successfully gone to bed by 10pm instead of 1am. I also noticed that it's easier to wake up in the morning for classes these days... I'm excited about this new habit I'm building and it has inspired me to 'fix up' other areas of my life.

yea it's really hard for me to limit my social media consumption...and when it happens at night it ruins the next morning as well! Good luck with your new habits, start slowly, but start now :)

I love this, Camilo - starting your reflection before the rest of the world looks back and forward on January 1.

Like Tony, you'll probably be levitating too with the action that'll emerge from your reflection, planning and willingness to choose your pains.

I've been looking forward to this essay for a long time. I love your equation "Action = Energy (reflection) + Focus (planning)

I too had a former colleague like Tony who was a master of planning, and action. His name was Paul. He was a joy to work with.

"Reflection helps you assess where you spent your energy that yielded results and/or felt good. Planning helps direct where you need to focus said energy so that you get the outcomes you want." I have one side of the equation (energy) and I'm trying to get better at planning. Thank you for this wonderful essay Camilo. It distills what is on my mind too!

so much to love about this piece, Camilo – really resonate with the focus on identity setting (here's to our year of becoming Writers), warm > cold starts, and planning tomorrow tonight. have a meaningful reflection & warm start season!

appreciate the annual review shout out :)

Something about annual reviews make me cry. Not because they are inherently sad, or even sad at all for that matter, but because it's a brilliant thing to be able to celebrate another year of life, another year of successes and blunders, to have expectations and for those expectations to be surpassed or crushed, to smile to cry, to set goals, scratch some off the list and leave the empty check box on some for yet another year, to know that no matter how hard you are on yourself that your friends are happy and proud of everything you've done and who you were the past year.

This is awesome Camilo. I mean Camizard.
